The are in a new era of their franchise, winning the AFC South in the first year with Doug Pederson as head coach. The immediate succe s under Pederson, combined with the development of as a franchise quarterback, makes Jacksonville a must-watch team heading into the postseason, which is why the Jaguars got the Saturday prime-time spot on Super Wild Card Weekend against the .Jacksonville hasn't played a Saturday home playoff game since the Jaguars defeated Abraham Almonte Jersey the , 62-7, in the AFC divisional round in January of 2000 -- which happened to be Dan Marino's final game. The Jaguars have had just one home playoff game since, and that 2018 win over the was on a Sunday afternoon.Playing Saturday was new territory for the Jaguars until last week, when Jacksonville beat the on a Saturday night to clinch the AFC South. Prior to that, the Jaguars never played in prime time on a Saturday.Night games aren't common in Jacksonville. The Jaguars haven't played on "Monday Night Football" since 2011 and "Sunday Joe Carter Jersey Night Football" since 2008. This is also a franchise that went an NFL-worst 47-130 from 2011 to 2021 (.266 win percentage) -- before Pederson arrived. So, how does Pederson get his team prepared for the unfamiliar start time, even though Jacksonville experienced this last week?"I just told them to get off their feet, to rest, take a nap, maybe watch some more tape. Whatever they can do," Pederson said Monday. "I didn't want them running around town or spending a lot of time at home with family and friends. Sometimes that can pull you away and drain you a little bit mentally as well."Just if they could get away and take some time for themselves, and then get over here and get ready to Larry Doby Jersey play. It's a long day. Last week we got together, we did some meetings and things like that on game day. For the most part, guys did a Josh Tomlin Jersey nice job of just handling their particular busine s." JAC QB #16 CMP%66.3YDs4113TD25INT8YD/Att7.04 Playing a Saturday night playoff game is unfamiliar for the Jaguars, yet it's something they may grow accustomed to with Pederson and Lawrence leading the way. This could be the beginning of a great run in Jacksonville."It's exciting. It's exciting for the game. It's exciting for fans, the league, the whole thing to have these young quarterbacks who are Brad Hand Jersey year in, year out vying for these postseason spots, and now Trevor gets his opportunity," Pederson said. "It just goes to show you how important that position is, as we know."We're just fortunate and ble sed to have Trevor as our guy and how much he's improved over the course of the season leading this football team. Really looking forward to watching him now on this type of stage. Last week was a step for him. Obviously, now this is another step in that direction."
is about to come full circle for the . With rookie first-round pick still recovering from injury and the luster having seemingly disappeared on backup quarterback , it'll reportedly be Flacco getting the nod as starter when the Jets take on the in Week 11, per Rich Cimini of . It's a decision Robert Saleh makes based upon what he saw Gregor Blanco Jersey in last week's blowout lo s to the , when White mi sed on 20 of his pa s attempts and threw four interceptions with no touchdowns. This is obviously familiar territory for Flacco, in now his second stint with the Jets, but he's hoping for a much better outcome than what occurred in his first one. In 2020, Flacco joined Gang Green as the backup to but parted ways in the following offseason, only to rejoin the Jets in October of this season when the -- whom he Chris Shaw Jersey signed with ahead of the season to play backup to -- traded him back to New York.Saleh's decision to start Flacco might work out well for the Eagles, considering Philadelphia will be awarded a fifth-round pick in 2022 if Flacco plays more than 50% of the snaps in at least four games -- per Ian Rapoport of -- rather than a sixth-round pick. Flacco entered last week's lo s to the Bills and completed all three of his pa ses for 47 yards and a touchdown, giving him a leg up on White and now forging an opportunity to wipe away the Will Clark Jersey 0-4 record he logged as a starter for the Jets in 2020. If Saleh is hoping for a better outcome in Flacco's return to the driver's seat, he'll have to ask the defense to be what they've not been to this point: good. It's a unit that's currently worst in the league in points allowed per game (32.9), and that means Flacco (or any QB for the Jets) would have to ready themselves for a shootout on a weekly basis. The problem is, the offense isn't equipped for that, so even if Flacco does play admirably, he'll need a ton of a sistance in all three phases to be succe sful. The Dolphins are struggling mightily themselves in 2021, however, so Flacco's first start this season might not require a Herculean effort -- instead one that simply sees him avoiding making critical mistakes. Both teams desperately need a win, if for nothing more than to feel good about themselves, but with the Dolphins having one their last two games and the Jets having lost theirs, the latter arguably needs it more. There Barry Bonds Jersey 's also bragging rights at stake in this AFC East clash, and Flacco has an opportunity here to really dig his heels in behind Wilson -- who'll return sooner than later.
If you aren't into horror films, you should've avoided watching what and the did to the on Sunday night. Ahead of their second matchup in only three weeks, the former clinched the NFC East only three days after having clinched a playoff berth, but they apparently had no plans whatsoever of easing up against the latter. Instead, Sherrick McManis Jersey they grabbed the nearest chainsaw and went full Leatherface in Week 16, taking Washington apart to the tune of a 56-14 final score, and feel free to put the 14 in air quotes.Initially, it looked as if it would be another uneven outing for the Cowboys offense, but after Pro Bowl cornerback intercepted first pa s from scrimmage, Prescott and the offense climbed out of the grave and then joined the defense -- along with special teams -- to to s Heinicke and Washington into it.It was utter domination on all fronts in a game that , and Heinicke wasn't coy in his a se sment of it after it was finally over."It's the same story from two weeks ago," he told media, via the team's website. "They just kicked our a s in all three phases of the game." No. 11 on the season! : Dallas Cowboys (@dallascowboys) It was mostly a defensive stand that bludgeoned Heinicke and Co. in Week 14 at FedEx Field, a game the Cowboys won 27-20 that was only made close by errors from Prescott. In all, Heinicke was sacked a combined eight times and intercepted on three different occasions by the Cowboys in 2021, and he was eventually pulled from both regular season contests to give some reps in games Anthony Miller Jersey that were already out of hand. There was little Washington did well in Week 14 and arguably nothing at all two weeks later, as Diggs was able to again erase star receiver with and bullying Heinicke and running back (his lone touchdown reception notwithstanding), and they'll now crawl into the final two games of their season battered, bruised and bloodied after being eviscerated twice in three weeks to end what was a four-game win streak. . is down the field & to the end zone! : Dallas Cowboys (@dallascowboys) "I know I've been up here and I've said before, 'We'll see what happens on the film and we'll get better from David Montgomery Jersey it,'" said Heinicke. "We will, but the guys are pi sed off right now, and rightfully so." Pi sed off, indeed. One need look no further than the sideline altercation between and , former collegiate teammates turned NFL teammates who were so furious at the throttling on Sunday evening that they took it out on each other -- having failed to take it out on the Cowboys. The two downplayed it after the game as a "brother disagreement," but in real time it was Payne seen barking at Allen before shoving him in the temple with his finger, and Allen Roquan Smith Jersey reacting by throwing a full-on punch at Payne's head, and it was one that had only one mi sion behind it: put Payne to bed.Had it connected, Payne might've been KO'd before the Cowboys finished doing it themselves. Jon Allen and Daron Payne getting into a fight on the sideline Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) That's probably not what Washington was going for when talking about heated benches. Speaking on the incident after the game, head coach Ron Rivera shrugged it off as two men displeased with what was going on over the course of the evening. "It spills over," said Rivera. "It's human nature. ...That's not normal sh-t. That's real-life sh-t."It certainly is far from normal to see two players nearly get into a full-on brawl during a game, and it's unclear if Rivera will take any action against either of the two, stopping short at noting he spoke to both of them Walter Payton Jersey afterward. What was once supposed to be a promising season to come for Washington in 2021 had its moment in November, but they've now lost three straight in December and are bleeding out as the regular season nears its conclusion. And it was the Cowboys who might've finished them in what can only be described as a Texas Chainsaw Ma sacre.

The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine begins in Indianapolis this week with interviews from head coaches and general managers. The festivities kick into hyper drive later in the week with prospects in each position grouping take part in testing and on-field drills. CBSSports.com's Ryan Wilson, Chris Trapa so and I answered some of the week's biggest questions.Wilson:"I can't take credit for this but I was talking with our guy at CBS Sports HQ, two-time Super Bowl champ, and he turned me on to (UTSA cornerback Tariq) Woolen, who was at the Senior Bowl and more than held his own. But he's 6-foot-4, 205 pounds and he is not only fluid in his movements Jon Lester Jersey but he has a chance to torch the 40 time. Let's put it this way: If he runs in the high 4.3s that'll be considered a disappointment."Trapa so: "Rightfully, the focus at the safety spot is on Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton. And if he works out, it's going to be a show. But (Penn State safety Jaquan) Brisker will prove he's quite the big, fast, and athletic specimen at the safety spot too, thereby carrying on the recently formed tradition of Nittany Lion products erupting at the combine."Edwards: "Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon should test very well. I would expect him to contend for fastest player in Indianapolis. If he is able to show off his speed and movement skills, then he is going to elevate himself into being a first-round regular in projections." Wilson:"Woolen will be in the mix. In the history of the combine we've had 13 players break 4.3 and there's a chance it happens again this week. In addition to Jason Heyward Jersey Woolen, Calvin Austin out of Memphis will also be in the conversation. And so too will LSU cornerback Derek Stingley, who ran in the 4.3 range in high school. We've also heard that Michigan's Dax Hill could time well."Trapa so: "Calvin Austin, WR, Memphis -- Nine-time state champion in track. All-American on the track team at Memphis. He's going to weigh-in under 180 pounds. He's going to fly."Edwards: "I am going to say Woolen as well. There is a lot of buzz that he is about to test very well. Coming from UTSA, he is a bit off-the-radar to the average fan but NFL teams are intrigued by his combination of size and speed. The combine is his moment to burst onto the national scene." Wilson: "I gue s I'll keep bringing up Woolen until we all agree he's a household name. (WR) Christian Watson out of North Dakota State balled out at the Senior Bowl, as did South Alabama's Jalen Tolbert. On the other side of the ball, linebacker Chad Muma of Wyoming and Troy Andersen of Montana State are other names to watch."Trapa so: "On film, (Oklahoma LB Brian) Asamoah is a lightning bolt to the football, and he was one of the steadiest defenders at the Senior Bowl. Is he going to destroy blockers pulling to the next level? Not usually. But he's incredibly fast and twitchy. The football-watching world will see just how explosive he is in Indianapolis this week."Edwards: "Georgia linebacker Quay Walker is built like a superhero and should move like one as well. There Carlos Zambrano Jersey is buzz that he will test as one of the best prospects pound-for-pound. In an era where NFL teams value speed at the linebacker position and the ability to move sideline to sideline unencumbered, Walker should be coveted by many." Wilson: "We haven't heard much from (Ole Mi s QB) Matt Corral since the end of the season because he wasn't eligible for the Senior Bowl. If he runs a good 40 time and interview well, he'll be right back in the QB1 mix. As for an off-the-radar QB to watch: Western Michigan's Kaleb Eleby is a fun player (he beat Pitt at Heinz Field in the fall) and I like him more than I thought when I watched his tape."Trapa so: "Skylar Thompson, QB, Kansas State -- It's a Justin Grimm Jersey challenge to draw major conclusions at the quarterback position from their work at the combine. But an impre sive workout in the timed/measured drills goes a long way, especially in today's NFL that asks more of quarterbacks athletically. Thompson was a dynamic scrambler and designed run type for the Wildcats and has a live arm. If he's ultimately the second-most athletic quarterback at the combine -- behind Malik Willis -- he'll ascend boards in a big way after the combine."Edwards: "My first response would have been Thompson and my second would have been Eleby. Rather than trying to provide some extra flavor, I'll break the tie with Thompson. He is a plus athlete with developmental traits as a quarterback." Wilson: "Here's to hoping (Texas A&M defensive end) DeMarvin Leal balls out. His tape was up and down in '21 but there's no denying his physical tools. He just needs to tap into those tools more consistently. He was regularly making appearances in my mock drafts back in the fall but admittedly, I was waiting for him to turn it on. It didn't happen, and while NFL teams are enamored by his potential, it never quite materialized. Leal can hit the reset button this week in Indy by blowing the doors off the workouts and here's to hoping he does just that."Trapa so: "OK, (Oregon edge rusher Kayvon) Thibodeaux isn't at risk of plummeting on draft night. However, there's some questions about his maturity and intentions with his football career. Kendall Graveman Jersey Unfounded or not, it's impacting his stock. At the combine, Thibodeaux can shift the focus back to what's he capable on the field at the combine with a stellar workout."Edwards: "LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. was my initial answer but it was reported Monday that he will wait until his Pro Day to perform. Georgia hybrid edge rusher and defensive tackle Travon Walker is a prospect that could rise into that top 10 conversation with a strong outing. If he puts up Rashan Gary-like numbers, knowing that Walker is a better player at this stage than Gary was, then it is reasonable to think he could be taken earlier than No. 12 overall, which is when Gary was picked."
The 2022 NFL Draft is over, all 262 selections have been made, and all that's left to do is brace for the knee-jerk reactions from media folk, ourselves included. We liked what most of teams did over the weekend because, in reality, this is nothing more than an exercise in checking boxes -- Did Team X fill those needs it was unable to fill in free agency? If the answer is yes, then Team X typically got a favorable grade. Variations in those grades might occur when the player Team X selected wasn't as popular among the mock-draftniks as NFL evaluators. Again, this is what happens when you try to rate a draft that's a few days old when a few years is what's needed. So instead of the traditional post-draft grades we're all used to, we're doing something a little different here. We're comparing where we had each draft pick graded with where they were actually selected. So, for example, if a team took a safety in the middle of the third round but we had him going in the middle of the second round, that team got second-round value in Round 3. Likewise, if a team takes a safety in Round 3 who we had graded as a fourth-rounder, then they've overdrafted that player. Again, this is one person's draft board vs. an entire organization of evaluators. Put another way: this list isn't identifying the "best" or "worst" draft cla ses, but instead showing how the actual draft stacked up against our draft board. It's more instructive than definitive and hopefully that's how you'll take it. *Note that we also list the entire draft cla s for each team with the actual round and pick listed first, followed by the player's name, position and school, and then, in parenthesis, where we had them graded on our final big board. So, for example, Rachaad White's entry reads like this: "R3.27. Rachaad White, RB, Arizona State (5.02)." White was actually drafted in Round 3, 27th overall, but we had him graded as an early fifth-rounder (5.02). And finally, you may see "(FA)" following a player's name, position and school, and that means we graded the player as an undrafted free agent. OK, let's get to it. R2.01., DT, Houston (2.05)R2.25., OT, Central Michigan (2.15)R3.27., RB, Arizona State (5.02)R4.01., TE, Washington (4.02)R4.28., P, Georgia (FA)R5.13. , CB, Sam Houston St. (4.07)R6.34., TE, Minnesota (FA)R7.20., EDGE, LSU (FA)Favorite pick:We had Logan Hall with an early Round 2 grade, and he was the first pick on Day 2. He has the strength to fight through double-teams in the run game, and surprising quickne s for someone his size. A year ago, his former Houston teammatewent in the first round to New Orleans, and we think Hall has a chance to be a better NFL player.Best value: We liked CB Zyon McCollum early in the fourth round, and the Bucs got him midway through the fifth. He's a long, fast corner who played primarily outside at Sam Houston State and racked up 15 interceptions in five college seasons. He feels like a Todd Bowles corner -- long, physical and with ball skills. Most surprising pick: The Bucs don't have a great track record when it comes to drafting specialists (relatively) early, but we get it. The Bengals tookwith the fifth pick in the fifth round a year ago and he was arguably the team's most valuable player during the postseason.. But Jake Camarda is a punter, and he was selected with tight end, who is undersized but is a pretty good blocker, still on the board.R1.23., CB, Florida (2.03)R2.31., RB, Georgia (5.01)R3.25., LB, Baylor (5.15)R5.04., WR, Boise State (4.15)R6.36., P, SDSU (4.15)R6.01. , CB, Villanova (FA)R6.25., OT, Virgina Tech (5.08)R7.03., LB, Clemson (FA)Favorite pick:Kaiir Elam is the cornerback you build in the lab. Long, physical throughout the route, moves well laterally, consistently disruptive at the catch point and, my goodne s is he fast. The biggest knock is that he needs to be more consistent in run support, but he certainly has the tools to be a complete player on a team with very few needs.Best value:Punter Matt Araiza. We had heard that he probably wouldn't be the first specialist drafted and that LSU kicker Cade York had a chance to be that player (and he was). We also heard that Araiza wasn't the No. 1 punter on some teams' boards. That also turned out to be true; Jake Camarda went some two rounds before Araiza. That said, we had him as a middle-of-the-fourth-rounder, and again, he's landing on a team that was a legit Super Bowl contender even before he arrived. Most surprising pick:James Cook. We love his game but weren't as Tobias Harris Jersey high on him as other draft-media folks or, apparently, the Bills, who took him at the bottom of the second round. We love the idea of a running back, even this high, but aren't Cook andsimilar players? Especially with Dameon Pierce and Isaiah Spiller available.R1.31., S, Michigan (1.28)R2.28., CB, Nebraska (4.20)R3.31., DT, Florida (5.17)R4.31., OG, NDSU (6.08)R5.22., S, Toledo (6.12)R7.24., EDGE, Coastal Carolina (4.26)Favorite pick:Again, we're going chalk here. Just like the Bucs and Bills above, the Bengals nailed their first selection. The biggest need heading into the draft was in the secondary, and Hill checks several boxes. He's listed as a safety but can play outside, deep centerfield and even if the box if you need him to.Best value:Jeffrey Gunter is raw, but man, his athleticism flashes at times on tape. We liked him late in the fourth as a developmental pa s rusher with traits NFL teams love. At 6-foot-4, 258 pounds, he ran a 4.7 40 and had a 35.5 vertical. He also has 33-inch arms. Most surprising pick:We understand the Cam Taylor-Britt selection --is on a one-year deal -- but we didn't value him as a late third-rounder. Yeah, he blazed a 4.38 40 at the combine, but we thought he was a little stiff in his transition at times. We likedandbetter, but again, we're one person, and clearly the Bengals felt differently.R1.05., EDGE, Oregon (1.08)R1.07., OT, Alabama (1.09)R2.11., WR, Kentucky (4.15)R3.03., OG, UNC (6.17)R3.17., CB, LSU (4.13)R4.07., TE, San Diego State (5.12)R4.09., S, Iowa (4.01)R5.02., LB, Indiana (4.20)R5.03., DT, Arizona (4.18)R5.29., OL, UNC (7.29)R6.38., LB, Cincinnati (4.09)Favorite pick:On the field, Thibodeaux was one of the most disruptive defensive players in this cla s. The other stuff -- his brand and whatnot -- didn't factor into our grade mostly because we could never get a clear answer, even from the teams we spoke to, about what the exact concerns were. This is about the range where we thought he should go off the board, and the Giants didn't overthink this one.Best value:We liked DJ Davidson as a mid-fourth-rounder, and the Giants selected him at the top of Round 5. He's a prototypical nose tackle who uses his hands well and is stout at the point of attack. He's built low to the ground, has surprising athleticism for his size, and can collapse the pocket. Most surprising pick:Wan'Dale Robinson. We get why the Giants drafted him -- he's electric and perhaps offers some insurance for whatever the future holds for-- but he's also 5-foot-8, 178 pounds with 28-inch arms. Typically, skill-position players with those measurables are early Day 3 players, maybe late Day 2 at best. That said, there's no denying Robinson's impact, and he can do it as a receiver, a runner or in the return game.R2.32., EDGE, Oklahoma (2.30)R3.16., TE, UCLA (4.05)R4.10., CB, Pittsburgh (6.01)R4.11., DT, Iowa State (4.11)R5.08., S, Oklahoma (4.14)R5.18., WR, Samford (6.02)R5.27., OC, Washington (5.15)R6.22., DT, Wisconsin (FA)R7.04., CB, Wisconsin (FA)Favorite pick:We had Eyioma Uwazurike with a top-half-of-the-fourth grade and that's where he went. But he flashed Day 2 ability. He can line up anywhere along the defensive line and be a problem. He's long, quick and strong, and his bull rush was consistently a problem for interior offensive linemen. And even when he can't get off a block, he remains incredibly active and plays with a high motor on every snap. And if he can play with more consistency -- sometimes he'd go stretches during a game without making much of an impact -- he can be a really good NFL player.Best value:Delarrin Turner-Yell comes downhill with purpose in run support, looking for something to hit. He also can flip his hips in coverage in the deep secondary and flashed sideline-to-sideline range. And while he's not at his best in man coverage in the slot, he's always around the ball. In 2021, Turner-Yell had three interceptions, 2.5 tackles for lo s and four pa ses defended. Most surprising pick:Damarri Mathis ran a 4.39 40 at the combine and had a 43.5-inch vertical at his pro day -- and that sent folks scurrying to watch more of his tape. But for us, we saw the same player, one who is at his best against deep routes where he stays in phase and uses the sideline for leverage. Mathis needs to get functionally stronger, especially against NFL wide receivers, and sometimes he can play a little stiff. We liked him later on Day 3 but understand why the Broncos liked him two rounds better than we did.R1.17., OG, Boston College (2.11)R3.15., S, Baylor (5.11)R4.18., RB, Texas A&M (2.25)R5.16., DT, UCLA (5.25)R6.11., OT, Georgia (5.15)R6.30., CB, Wake Forest (FA)R7.08., CB, Ole Mi s (FA)R7.32., RB, Purdue (FA)Favorite pick:Jamaree Salyer played left tackle at Georgia, but he'll kick inside in LA. And the best way we can describe him is solid. Not spectacular, solid. He doesn't excel at any one thing but does a lot of things really well, and rarely makes mental mistakes. Zion Johnson is a Day 1 starter, but Salyer will be a contributor with gameday flexibility.Best value:Isaiah Spiller fell to the middle of the fourth round, and we liked him almost two full rounds better. He runs hard, has the short-area quickne s to make defenders mi s in small areas, and he's an a set in the pa s game. He's not a 4.4 burner, but he's fast enough in the open field and LA feels like a great fit for his talents. Most surprising pick:JT Woods. Another Baylor burner -- surprise, surprise -- who had five interceptions last season. And to be fair, that speed showed up on tape, especially in coverage against vertical routes. That said, he looked a little stiff at times in coverage, and while he wasn't afraid to come downhill in run support, he'll need to put on weight and get stronger at the next level.R1.29., OG, Chattanooga (2.20)R2.18., WR, Baylor (5.32)R3.21., CB, Houston (2.23)R4.16., CB, Arizona State (4.19)R4.22., RB, SDSU (6.03)R4.32., QB, Western Kentucky (6.15)R6.39., RB, South Carolina (FA)R6.16., DT, NW Mi souri St. (FA)R6.26., OG, LSU (3.17)R7.17., OG, Michigan (4.16)Favorite pick:Marcus Jones. He can do everything, and if he was 5-foot-11 instead of 5-foot-8 he would've been a first-round pick. He's a dog in coverage (five interceptions, 13 pa s breakups and 16 forced incompletions in '21), he's a dog in the return game (nine career Landry Shamet Jersey touchdowns on kickoff returns), and he's a dog as a receiver (10 receptions for 109 yards in '21).Best value:Chasen Hines played right guard at LSU last season, but he also can play center. He's also relatively new to the position; he came to Baton Rouge as a defensive lineman and moved to offense ahead of the 2018 season. He's a mauler in the run game. In fact, in our notes we wrote, "Dude will punch you in the mouth when pulling in the run game -- he's a tone-setter." Feels like a Patriot. Most surprising pick:Tyquan Thornton ran a sub-4.3 40. We didn't think he played that fast, and he's coming from a Baylor offense where the route tree is limited. He also has a slight frame and small hands, and while that's not nece sarily a death knell, we preferred George Pickens or Skyy Moore on the board here.R1.20., QB, Pittsburgh (2.11)R2.20., WR, Georgia (2.27)R3.20., DL, Texas A&M (3.18)R4.33., WR, Memphis (3.32)R6.24., FB, Michigan State (7.32)R6.41., LB, Mi si sippi State (FA)R7.13., QB, SDSU (FA)Favorite pick:Maturity concerns and an ACL injury in March 2021 are why George Pickens fell out of the first round, but he has first-round talent for days. The Steelers have a history of getting the most out of players who may arrive in Pittsburgh with off-field i sues, and there's no reason to think it won't be the case with Pickens, who helps restock a wide receiver room that lostand.Best value:Calvin Austin III is a shade under 5-foot-8 and weighs just 170 pounds, but he is a dynamo. He played primarily outside at Memphis but has the versatility (and 4.32 speed) to line up anywhere. He's humble too, but also plays with an edge because he's been doubted his whole life because of his size. He's another player who, if he was three inches taller, would've been a first-round pick. Most surprising pick:Mark Robinson. We had him as an undrafted free agent, but the Steelers took him at the end of the sixth round. There's a good explanation too. Robinson moved from running back to linebacker last season, and it was his 4.69 speed and 33.5-inch vertical that got new linebackers coach Brian Flores' attention. Robinson will likely begin his Steelers career on special teams.R2.07., CB, Washington (2.07)R2.16., S, Penn State (2.09)R3.07., WR, Tenne see (4.30)R5.24., OL, Southern Utah (5.16)R5.30., EDGE, Miami (Ohio) (5.17)R6.02., OG, SDSU (5.31)R6.19., RB, Baylor (7.10)R6.23., OC, Illinois (7.03)R6.42., OT, Southern (7.02)R7.26., S, California (FA)R7.27., P, NC State (FA)Favorite pick:Jaquan Brisker was in that group of safeties just after Kyle Hamilton who have a chance to be special NFL players. He fluid in space, looks natural covering wide receivers and has the athleticism to come downhill to cover or break-up shallow cro sing routes -- basically providing cornerback-like coverage traits from the safety position. And the 4.49 40 and 34.5-inch vertical he ran at the combine show up on tape too.Best value:Zachary Thomas played both tackle positions at San Diego State, is surprisingly athletic in space, and is solid in pa s protection. He'll need to get stronger and tighten up his footwork, but he'll add depth to a unit that needs it.Most surprising pick:Velus Jones Jr. had a solid season for the Vols, and his twitchine s and long speed were clear to anyone who watched him. But he'll be 25 years old in May, and while he run away from people with the ball in his hands, he didn't consistently separate with that 4.31 speed. He's also an a set in the return game and, look, the Bears desperately need wide receivers, so we get it. We would've preferred Jalen Tolbert or Danny Gray in this spot, but Jones does fill a huge void.R3.40., OG, Wisconsin (4.14)R4.37., CB, South Carolina State (5.02)R5.20., RB, Notre Dame (3.24)R6.27., S, UCLA (6.11)R6.28., CB, Georgia (6.20)R7.07., EDGE, Montana State (FA)R7.25., S, Kansas State (FA)R7.33., OT, Michigan State (FA)Favorite pick:Decobie Durant is fun, man. He's springy, twitchy and whatever other scouting term that conveys what it is he does. He's a shade under 5-foot-10 and just 180 pounds but plays the position like he's 6-foot, 200 pounds. Basically, he has the movement skills of a smaller player with the ball skills of someone much bigger. He had three sacks, two tackles for lo s and 15 pa s breakups last season. And at times against Clemson, he looked like the best player on the field.Best value:Kyren Williams feels like a bargain here. Like Derion Kendrick, Williams didn't test as well as he may have liked during the pre-draft proce s, but he played much faster than he was timed. In addition to running hard, he's an a set as a receiver and perhaps most importantly, he's the best pa s-blocking back in this cla s.Most surprising pick:There were no glaring discrepancies between our grades and where the Rams drafted their players, so we'll take this opportunity to say we really liked Derion Kendrick coming into the 2021 season. And he was solid at times for Georgia after transferring from Clemson, but he never found his way into the same conversation as, say,or, who went early in last year's draft. Then he ran a 4.78 at his pro day, and what once felt like a lock for Day 2 ended up as a bottom-of-Round 6 situation.R2.21., WR, Cincinnati (4.09)R3.09., TE, Virginia (4.19)R3.13., OT, Central Michigan (1.26)R3.32., S, Maryland (3.16)R5.15., DT, Mi souri State (5.15)R6.08., TE, Youngstown St. (FA)R6.32., DT, Cincinnati (4.27)R7.11., LB, Yale (FA)Favorite pick:Nick Cro s is 6-foot, 212 pounds and ran a 4.34 at the combine. And he plays that fast too! He's a young player -- he won't turn 21 until September -- and he's incredibly instinctive. As he continues to learn the position -- and he lined up just about everywhere for the Terps -- he may end up feeling like a steal here.Best value:Bernhard Raimann will be 25 in September, and he's only played 20 games at left tackle. We get the concerns, but we loved his athleticism, and more than that, his potential to grow into a really good player. He's a converted tight end who hasn't been playing football that long. But he moves like a tight end, and he just needs to get stronger and continue to refine his technique. Most surprising pick:Andrew Ogletree. We'll be honest, he wasn't on our radar, but Chad Henry, the Colts Midwest area scout, that when you see Ogletree he looks like. "Not saying he's Calvin Johnson, but body type, he looks like him." He then transfers to Youngstown State and moves to tight end. "You really didn't get to see him play 100% conventional tight end until he got to Hula Bowl," Henry said. "So that really helped him being there. He did some really neat things there. We did a workout with him. Watched the pro day. ... He's a great kid. Another super culture fit. We were really excited to get him. I think he has tremendous upside."R1.16., WR, Penn State (2.22)R2.15., DT, Alabama (3.16)R3.34., RB, Alabama (5.18)R4.08., S, Louisiana (4.24)R5.39., QB, UNC (2.01)R5.05., TE, Nevada (6.19)R7.02., OG, Tulsa (4.22)R7.12., LB, Oklahoma State (FA)Favorite pick:We really liked Chris Paul more than NFL teams and other draft media folks. In college he played right tackle opposite, the left tackle who was drafted in the first round by the. Paul's NFL future will be inside, and before he played right tackle for Tulsa, he also started at both right and left guard. He's more athletic than he may look, he moves well in space, and he sustains blocks in the run game. He can get too upright at times and overset against speed rushers, but that'll be le s of a concern at guard.Best value:Sam Howell was our QB2. We know at least one team that wished he had returned to school, but the more we watched Howell the more we appreciated what he was able to accomplish with so little around him. He has an NFL arm, can win with his legs and is incredibly tough, but he played in a simplified UNC offense, needs to do a better job of getting through his reads, and his footwork will need some tightening. That said, Washington got second-round value late in Round 5.Most surprising pick:Brian Robinson Jr. is a fantastic teammate and locker room presence, but he's more of a straight-line runner than dynamic running back. But that's apparently what the Commanders were looking for, even with,,andstill on the board.R3.04., CB, Mi si sippi State (3.12)R3.14., UAB, EDGE (4.30)R3.35., WR, Purdue (3.13)R4.03., DT, Oklahoma (4.17)R4.19., K, LSU (4.20)R5.12., RB, Cincinnati (4.09)R6.18., WR, UCLA (7.02)R6.39., EDGE, Oklahoma (6.10)R7.18., OC, Texas Tech (FA)Favorite pick:Cade York. We heard he had a chance to po sibly sneak into the bottom of the third round. He lasted until the middle of the fourth, and ends up as the first specialist selected. He fills a huge need for the Browns, and if this pick is anything like whatdid for thea year ago, it's a home run.Best value:We liked Jerome Ford a full round before he was actually drafted. The Alabama transfer average 6.3 yards per carry for the Bearcats, and he' Rodney McGruder Jersey s also an a set in the pa sing game. There are rumors thatcould be traded, but even if he stays, Ford will be a contributor next season. Most surprising pick:Alex Wright is a developmental player with tons of potential. We liked him a lot, but because he was so raw we pegged him as an early Day 3 target. In 13 games last season for UAB, he had seven sacks, 7.5 tackles for lo s, three pa ses defended and two forced fumbles. He doesn't have an array of pa s-rush moves (at least not yet), and he'll need to get stronger, but he also flashes the potential to be a disruptive situational-pa s rusher.R1.32., S, Georgia (2.09)R2.10., CB, Clemson (1.18)R2.27., OL, LSU (4.14)R3.02., LB, Oklahoma (4.05)R4.13., CB, Mi souri (3.27)R5.21., DT, Minnesota (5.13)R5.25., RB, UNC (6.09)R6.40., OT, Illinois (5.15)R6.07., WR, Michigan State (4.03)R6.43., TE, South Carolina (FA)Favorite pick:Andrew Booth Jr. is a first-round talent who lasted 10 picks into Round 2 primarily because he wasn't able to run during the pre-draft proce s because of a quad injury and hernia surgery. He made just 15 college starts, but the ability was easy to spot, both in coverage and in run support.Best value:We liked Jalen Nailor early in Round 4 because of his athleticism and downfield playmaking ability. He only ran a 4.5 at the combine but played faster than that. He'll need to get stronger, but he can consistently eat up cushions as a long strider and stack defensive backs on vertical routes. Most surprising pick:Ed Ingram was our OG8, and we liked him as a mid-fourth-rounder. The Vikings got him at the bottom of Round 2 to fill needs along the interior offensive line, and we get why they did it. Ingram is an earth-mover in the run game who excels at combo blocks, but isn't going to be a player you use in space.R1.03., CB, LSU (1.12)R1.15., OG, Texas A&M (1.16)R2.05., S, Baylor (2.13)R2.12., WR, Alabama (2.28)R3.11., LB, Alabama (2.11)R4.02., RB, Florida (3.09)R5.06., DT, Stanford (7.29)R5.26., TE, Oregon State (FA)R6.21., OG, LSU (5.15)Favorite pick:John Metchie III would've gone much higher had he not torn his ACL in the SEC title game, and while he doesn't have the explosivene s of former teammate, he's a precise route runner with great hands and YAC ability. He flashed consistently at Alabama while playing alongside some of the best wideouts in college football.Best value:There was some pre-draft buzz that Christian Harris could find his way into the first round, so it was a shock when he was still available early in Round 3. Harris ran a 4.44 40 at the combine with a 34.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot broad jump, and that athleticism showed up on tape too. He's explosive coming downhill, either in run support or pre suring the quarterback, and has the fluidity to cover wide receivers in the middle of the field. Most surprising pick:Thomas Booker left us wanting more at Stanford. He does a good job of occupying blockers, and he can push the pocket, but he can go stretches without making an impact.R2.29., EDGE, USC (2.30)R3.29., RB, LSU (FA)R3.41., WR, SMU (4.07)R4.29., OG, Texas-San Antonio (4.14)R5.28., CB, Toledo (FA)R6.03., OL, Fordham (4.17)R6.36., DT, UCF (2.25)R6.37., CB, Penn State (3.28)R7.34., QB, Iowa State (7.32)Favorite pick:Danny Gray is only 5-foot-11 and around 190, but he can absolutely fly. And despite his size, he was one of the best receivers in college football last season at contested catches. He's as likely to take it to the house on a quick slant as a go route.Best value:We love love love Kalia Davis. He's as twitched-up a defensive tackle as you'll see in this cla s, consistently shooting gaps and getting into the backfield. The big i sue is health; he tore his ACL last November and only appeared in five games the last two seasons. Most surprising pick:We had Tyrion Davis-Price as a late-Day 3/undrafted free agent target. He's a boom-or-bust back; he averaged seven yards per carry against Kentucky last season, but on seven other occasions he averaged le s than four yards per carry. In our notes we wrote, "If the hole is there he'll hit it with purpose, but he's not going to create a lot on his own if nothing there," and "rips off long runs through gaping holes, or sealed edges, where his straight-line speed is an a set because there isn't a lot of wiggle to his game." And in that light, this pick makes a lot of sense in Kyle Shanahan's run offense, though we were partial to Dameon Pierce, Isaiah Spiller, Tyler Allgeier and Kyren Williams.R1.18., WR, Arkansas (1.27)R2.03., CB, Auburn (2.01)R3.05., OT, Ohio State (2.14)R3.22., QB, Liberty (2.10)R4.26., RB, Michigan (4.20)R4.38., TE, Maryland (6.02)R5.19., WR, UCLA (5.30)R6.20., S, Tenne see (FA)R6.35., LB, Ole Mi s (7.27)Favorite pick:In the lead up to the draft, we compared Treylon Burks to:,,and. He didn't time as well as Brown at the combine, but he's a similar-type talent -- and substantially cheaper. You can line him up just about anywhere, even in the backfield, and the Titans were able to add him and get additional picks in return.Best value:We graded Malik Willis as a second-round pick who we thought would end up in Round 1 because of his upside. The NFL took it a step further because Willis lasted until the 22nd pick of the third round. But here's the thing: Now the pre sure that accompanies going in the top 10 is off. He can learn at his own pace, on a playoff team, and play when he's actually ready instead of when the coach may think he's about to get fired. Most surprising pick:Chigoziem Okonkwo is an athletic tight end who can line up inline, as an H-back or in the slot. He ran a 4.52 40 at the combine with a 35.5-inch vertical. He has big-play potential because of speed, open-field athleticism and tackle-breaking ability, but he's also a tweener in terms of where he'll play. That said, he could be part of the committee to replace Brown, and in that case the pick makes a lot of sense.R3.38., LB, Georgia (3.16)R4.20., WR, Texas Tech (5.29)R6.40., LB, California (FA)R7.19., QB, Kansas State (5.30)Favorite pick:Channing Tindall. On a defense full of athletic marvels, Tindall might be the best athlete of the group, though he's still raw as a football player. That said, he'll run through a wall to make a play, and he'll do it as someone who ran a 4.47 with a 42-inch vertical.Best value:Skylar Thompson set or tied career bests in completion percentage (69.5), touchdowns (12) and interceptions (four) in 2021. He won't threatenfor the starting job (or least he shouldn't), but he'll have a chance to win the backup job. Most surprising pick:When you have just four picks there aren't a lot of surprises. We liked Erik Ezukanma in Round 5 but have no i sue with him going in the fourth. He adds depth to a suddenly deep position, and he's a good blocker and tough runner with the ball in his hands.R1.24., OT, Tulsa (2.12)R2.24., EDGE, Ole Mi s (3.18)R3.24., WR, South Alabama (3.21)R4.24., TE, Wisconsin (3.30)R5.11., OG, North Dakota (6.10)R5.23., CB, Fresno (5.29)R5.32., LB, LSU (4.20)R5.34., DT, Arkansas (4.18)R6.09., LB, Oklahoma State (6.02)Favorite pick:We liked Jake Ferguson more than most other draft-media folks -- he was actually our TE4 -- as he's an a set as a run blocker, has good hands (just one drop last season), and is surprisingly elusive in the open field (forced 12 mi sed tackles in '21). He's not a deep threat but won't need to be, either; he does most of his damage within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage.Best value:John Ridgeway transferred from Illinois State and didn't mi s a beat against SEC competition. Despite his 6-foot-5 frame, he plays with a low base, is a space-eater and incredibly strong, and eats up double teams, allowing his teammates to make plays. We liked him as a mid-fourth-rounder, and the Cowboys were able to get him a full round later. Most surprising pick:Sam Williams went nearly a full round before we expected, but that has everything to do with off-field concerns. On the field, he's a first-round talent, and we understand why the Cowboys drafted him late in the second round. He's explosive, strong, and plays with a non-stop motor.R1.11., WR, Ohio State (2.10)R1.19., OT, Northern Iowa (1.26)R2.17., CB, Tenne see (3.03)R5.17., LB, Appalachian State (4.16)R6.10., EDGE, Air Force (4.28)Favorite pick:Jordan Jackson had an elite pa s-rush grade from PFF, and that showed up at times on tape. He's capable of collapsing the pocket, is consistently active with his hands when rushing the pa ser, and can fight through double teams to get into the backfield. He'll struggle at times to get off blocks vs. the run, and he'll need to expand his pa s-rush arsenal, but his best football could be in front of him.Best value:Jackson was also the best value for the Saints, but we'll go with D'Marco Jackson, who went a full round later than we expected. Like many linebackers in this cla s, he's an athletic marvel with sideline-to-sideline speed who is always around the ball. He'll just need to get stronger to take on blocks instead of occasionally getting washed out of plays. Most surprising pick:The Saints had glaring and obvious needs at wideout, and Chris Olave is a natural fit. We just don't know if trading up for him was worth the price, especially when he was drafted ahead of(though Williams won't be ready until perhaps November). That said, if Olave turns out to be the nextthen this pick is a home run. (This is where we point out that a lot of really good wideouts go in the second round -- Thomas,.,,, so perhaps it's something of an overreaction to get too worked up about Olave going this high.)R1.08., WR, USC (1.10)R2.06., EDGE, Penn State (2.29)R2.26., LB, Montana State (2.28)R3.10., QB, Cincinnati (3.19)R3.18., EDGE, Western Kentucky (4.23)R5.07., RB, BYU (4.02)R6.06., OG, Georgia (3.11)R6.29., TE, Georgia (FA)Favorite pick:This feels like best-case scenario for Desmond Ridder, who we had going in the middle of Round 3. No pre sure to start right away, similar skillset to that of, and now with legit weapons in, Drake London, and even Tyler Allgeier.Best value:Justin Shaffer was the best value on paper, but we're going with Allgeier here. He can do everything well and don't be fooled by his 4.6 40 time. He plays much faster than that and in many ways reminds us of.Most surprising pick:We preferred DeAngelo Malone later in Round 4, but we aren't going to argue that the Falcons had a big need at the position, even after taking Arnold Ebiketie in the second round. Malone will need to add weight -- he was 239 at his pro day -- but his physical tools are worth the risk here.R1.14., S, Notre Dame (1.12)R1.25., OC, Iowa (1.18)R2.13., EDGE, Michigan (1.15)R3.12., DL, UConn (3.01)R4.05., OT, Minnesota (2.03)R4.14., CB, Alabama (6.25)R4.23., TE, Iowa State (4.07)R4.25., P, Penn State (4. Los Angeles Clippers Jersey 14)R4.34., TE, Coastal Carolina (3.27)R4.36., CB, Houston (7.01)R6.12., RB, Mi souri (6.15)Favorite pick:David Ojabo is a lot like, and it makes sense the two have known each other for some time. He's raw, a fantastic athlete, and he's just getting started as a football player. He's a legit first-round talent who fell to the middle of Round 2 because of a Pro Day injury, but he has a chance to be special when he's healthy.Best value:We've been Daniel Faalele fans since the summer, and we liked him more than draft media and the league, primarily because he moves so well for someone who weighs 380 pounds, but also because like Ojabo, he's new to football. Most surprising pick:No surprise that it's Damarion Williams and Jalyn Armour-Davis, both cornerbacks. A year ago, the Ravens used a third-round pick on(we thought he'd be available late on Day 3), and over the weekend Baltimore took Armour-Davis and Williams more than two rounds higher than we expected. The le son: the team has a different idea of what fits their system in the secondary than we do. Stephens had a solid rookie campaign, and history suggests the same for Armour-Davis and Williams.R1.01., EDGE, Georgia (1.09)R1.27., LB, Utah (1.13)R3.01., OC, Kentucky (2.21)R3.06., LB, Wyoming (2.20)R5.10., RB, Ole Mi s (5.3)R6.13., CB, Ouachita Baptist (FA)R6.38., CB, Arkansas (6.2)Favorite pick:Devin Lloyd is a che s piece in the middle of Jacksonville's defense. He's better coming downhill than in coverage, but that doesn't mean he's a liability against the pa s. He's a special player on what should be a much-improved defense.Best value:Luke Fortner was our OC2 behind Tyler Linderbaum and ahead of Cam Jurgens, and he solidifies the middle of the offensive line. The only way this gets better is if the Jags had taken Ickey Ekwonu No. 1 overall to giveeven more help up front. Most surprising pick:Chad Muma. Not because we don't love him -- we thought he'd go in the middle of Round 2 -- but because the team took Devin Lloyd in the first round. But GM Trent Baalke said after the draft that "I don't think we can ever have enough good linebackers," adding, "He's a green dot guy. He can run the defense. He's a really good special teams player as well. There's just a lot to like." Fair enough.R1.04., CB, Cincinnati (1.08)R1.10., WR, Ohio State (1.09)R1.26., EDGE, Florida State (1.21)R2.04., RB, Iowa State (2.10)R3.37., TE, Ohio State (3.27)R4.06., OT, Louisiana (3.30)R4.12., EDGE, Texas A&M (4.02)Favorite pick:Garrett Wilson reminds us of. in terms of his athleticism and playmaking ability, and Wilson compared his game to. Either way, it's a win for second-year quarterback.Best value:The Jets' selections matched up well with where we had them going, but of all the picks, Max Mitchell offers the best value. Pa sing on the offensive line on Days 1 and 2 allowed New York to stock up on four players who are likely Day 1 starters and tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who should contribute early too. Consistency was Mitchell's calling card in college, and while he'll need to get stronger, he's a solid selection early on Day 3.Most surprising pick:Ruckert, but not because he was overdrafted; we thought he'd go late on Day 2 and that's exactly what happened. It's just that the Jets haveandon the roster.R3.26., OL, Memphis (3.04)R4.17., RB, Georgia (5.08)R4.21., DT, LSU (4.21)R5.31., DT, Tenne see (6.02)R7.10., OG, Ohio State (4.31)R7.22., RB, UCLA (FA)Favorite pick:This wasn't a particularly sexy draft for the Raiders, but maybe that's a good thing after some suspect decisions under the previous regime. Dylan Parham is a rock in the middle of the offensive line, and he more than held his own against Logan Hall, who was the 33rd overall pick over the weekend. Parham plays with good balance, moves well in space, and consistently locks up defensive linemen.Best value:Thayer Munford was, unfortunately, on the receiving end ofreverse pancake in the Ohio State-Michigan game, but that one play doesn't define his career. He moved from tackle to guard and played well for the Buckeyes last season. We liked him more than two rounds before he was selected. Most surprising pick:Matthew Butler fills a need along the interior defensive line and flashed NFL potential at times last season, but he also spent too much time on the ground, which is something he'll need to work on in Las Vegas.R1.22., LB, Georgia (2.28)R1.28., DT, Georgia (2.02)R2.02., WR, NDSU (2.16)R3.28., OG, UCLA (4.10)R4.27., WR, Nevada (5.03)R4.35., OC, Wake Forest (4.09)R5.35., EDGE, South Carolina (2.17)R6.44., S, Georgia Tech (FA)R7.06., DT, Miami (FA)R7.21., OT, Penn State (2.26)R7.30., WR, Nebraska (6.32)Favorite pick:Christian Watson ran in the high 4.3s at the combine and that speed shows up on tape. He did play at the FCS level, but you wouldn't have known it watching him at the Senior Bowl. And for as bad as the Packers are at taking a wideout in Round 1, they've been really good at finding them in Round 2; it's a group that includes,,, Jordy Nelson and now Watson.Best value:When he's locked in, Rasheed Walker has first-round talents. Go watch the Penn State-Michigan game. He had a rough first series but after that locked down both Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo. If the Packers can tap into that, this could be the best pick in this cla s.Most surprising pick:We had Tariq Carpenter as an undrafted free agent, so it's not much of a stretch that he went late in Round 6, especially since he fills a need in the secondary. It also points out that there wasn't much discrepancy between where we thought these players would go and when the Packers selected them.R1.21., CB, Washington (1.14)R1.30., EDGE, Purdue (2.14)R2.22., WR, Western Michigan (3.02)R2.30., S, Cincinnati (2.13)R3.39., LB, Wisconsin (3.14)R4.30., CB, Fayetteville State (3.15)R5.01., OG, Kentucky (2.10)R7.15., CB, Washington State (6.02)R7.23., RB, Rutgers (FA)R7.31., S, Marshall (FA)Favorite pick:Man, we love us some Bryan Cook. A Howard transfer, Cook moved from cornerback to safety at Cincinnati, and he might be one of the smartest players in this cla s. He can also lay the wood coming downhill in run support and play coverage on the back end. The Chiefs did sign, butis in the final year of his rookie deal.Best value:We thought Darian Kinnard had a chance to go on Day 2, but the Chiefs got him early in the fifth round. He played tackle at Kentucky but will kick inside in the NFL. He plays with a nasty streak and can be a dominant run blocker. Most surprising pick:George Karlaftis was a polarizing prospect in the sense that some people thought he was a top-15 talent while others liked him more in Round 2. We fell in the latter group, though it's hard to argue with the fit in Kansas City, or with where they got him at No. 30. He's a good football player who hasn't been playing the game very long.R1.02., EDGE, Lions (1.01)R1.12., WR, Alabama (1.17)R2.14., EDGE, Kentucky (3.25)R3.33., S, Illinois (3.29)R5.33., TE, Virginia Tech (4.25)R6.04., LB, Oklahoma State (3.14)R6.33., EDGE, Jackson State (7.03)R7.09., CB, Arizona State (6.19)Favorite pick:Kerby Joseph didn't run during the pre-draft proce s, and while not nece sarily a red flag, it gets teams' attention. That said, Joseph had a really good 2021 season for Illinois and was regularly all over the field from the deep safety position. He was just as likely to come downhill in run support as break Blake Griffin Jersey up a pa s in deep centerfield.Best value:Malcolm Rodriguez was our LB7, even ahead of Channing Tindall and Brian Asamoah, in part because of his 4.52 40 time and 39.5-inch vertical and also for his playmaking abilities in the middle of the Cowboys' defense. He was a converted safety -- and plays with that fluidity -- who was a four-year starter in college with 3,000-plus defensive snaps, 500-plus special teams snaps and 300-plus career tackles while committing just three penalties. Most surprising pick:We thought Josh Paschal might last until Round 3, but we get why he went more than a round sooner. He's an athletic marvel -- both powerful and twitchy -- and feels like a Dan Campbell-type player.R1.09., OT, Mi si sippi State (1.11)R2.08., EDGE, Minnesota (1.26)R2.09., RB, Michigan St. (2.09)R3.08., OT, Washington State (4.10)R4.04., CB, Cincinnati (4.01)R5.09., CB, UTSA (2.20)R5.14., EDGE, Ohio State (4.06)R7.01., WR, Rutgers (6.20)R7.05., WR, Lenoir-Rhyne (FA)Favorite pick:Boye Mafe will turn 24 years old during the season, but he's still pretty raw. The traits are all there, and for someone who played primarily in a two-point stance at Minnesota, once he gets the nuances of the position he can be a game wrecker off the edge.Best value:Like Mafe, what Tariq Woolen lacks in experience he makes up for with athleticism. He's long (even by Seahawks standards for CBs), fluid and fast. He's also a converted wide receiver still learning the position. Most surprising pick:Ken Walker is one of our favorite players in this whole cla s, but do the Seahawks really need another running back, especially early in Round 2? That's our only concern because Walker should be an immediate impact player.R1.13., DT, Georgia (1.17)R2.19., OC, Nebraska (4.12)R3.19., LB, Georgia (1.14)R6.37., EDGE, Kansas (5.14)R6.14., TE, SMU (4.28)Favorite pick:Kyron Johnson played off the edge at Kansas, but his future could be at linebacker, or le s specifically, as a Swi s Army Knife who lines up just about everywhere. He was a late add to the Senior Bowl roster and immediately stood out. "He is an explosive pa s rusher, he gets off the ball exceptionally well, he's got edge speed," said Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel Andy Weidl. ... "He plays with energy. He's been an outstanding special teams player, 17 career special teams tackles. ... A lot of positives with him and at the Senior Bowl, he took on some of the top tackles and put them on their back with his pa s-rush ability, so you see that. It was just a great opportunity to get a guy who can add to the rush game."Best value:Nakobe Dean, duh. He was our LB2 just behind, but injury concerns saw him drop to the middle of Round 3. Here's to hoping he can stay healthy and replicate in Philly what we all marveled at during his Georgia career. Most surprising pick:We had Cam Jurgens as a fourth-rounder, but others were higher on him than we were, and we get why the Eagles took him in Round 2. Because if they hadn't, another team might have. During the draft proce s Jurgens was considered a consolation prize for the team that didn't want to pay a first-round premium for-- they're similar physically -- and Philly has a need at the position ifis playing his final season.R2.23., TE, Colorado State (2.09)-R3.23., EDGE, SDSU (3.12)R3.36., EDGE, Cincinnati (2.24)R6.17., RB, USC (FA)R6.31., OG, Virginia Tech (4.19)R7.16., CB, Valdosta State (FA)R7.28., EDGE, Penn State (5.05)R7.29., OG, Oklahoma (5.25)Favorite pick:Trey McBride was our TE1, and even though the team hasand, McBride has a chance to be a Day 1 impact player, especially withfacing a six-game suspension to start the year.Best value:The team found value with Lecitus Smith and Je se Luketa, but we love that it was able to get Myjai Sanders late on Day 2. He needs to get stronger, but he's long and disruptive and if he can be more consistent as a pa s rusher, he'll be a huge get here. Most surprising pick:We had Keontay Ingram as a target as an undrafted free agent, but we certainly understand why the Cardinals targeted him in the middle of Round 6, especially with 18 running backs already off the board.R1.06., OT, NC State (1.07)R3.30., QB, Ole Mi s (1.30)R4.15., LB, Penn State (5.12)R6.05., EDGE, Virginia Tech (5.25)R6.15., OG, Tenne see (4.07)R7.14., CB, Baylor (4.17)Favorite pick:Matt Corral had some that played a part in him lasting until the end of Round 3. But he has a chance to play next season, especially since the Panthers were able to addre s the offensive line with the No. 6 overall pick.Best value:Yes, we had Ickey Ekwonu going just about where the Panthers selected him, but he fills such an enormous need along their offensive line that he's still a value here. And as we mentioned above, it allows the team to get some idea of what their quarterbacks actually look like when not running for their lives. Most surprising pick:Brandon Smith checks every single height-weight-speed box when it comes to finding an NFL linebacker. He's 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, ran a 4.52 40 with a 37.5-inch vertical -- it's all there. But Smith never put it all together on the field. You'd see flashes, but it would leave you wanting more. That said, there's nothing wrong with taking a mid-fourth-rounder flyer on him, even if we thought he was more of a mid-fifth-rounder.
The third-seeded versus the top-seeded is about as stark of a juxtaposition between two NFC Championship finalists as there's ever been. The Lions are playing in their first conference title game since the 1991 season, and the 49ers have made a conference championship game appearance in each of their last seven postseason trips, a streak that is the second-longest ever behind only the 2011-2018 led by and Bill Belichick. However, there are some similarities between the two franchises. They are both two of the top five rushing offenses and defenses in the . San Francisco ranks third in the in rushing yards per game (140.5) while Detroit isn't far behind (135.9 rushing yards per game) with the fifth-ranked rushing offense. The Lions' 88.8 rushing yards per game allowed ranks as the second-fewest in the NFL while the 49ers are right behind them with the No. 3 run defense (89.7 rushing yards per game). The 49ers are currently 7-point home favorites against Detroit, per , but Lions appear to be on a magical run with more playoff wins this season (two) than the previous 65 seasons combined (one). Here is a ranking of the five players likely to have the most outsized impact -- aka the X factors -- on the final result of Sunday night's game.San Francisco 49ers quarterback will not be listed among the X factors because he doesn't elevate or sink Kyle Shanahan's offense. He is simply the 49ers barometer, reflective of which playmakers are or aren't on the field each game. San Francisco is 18-1 when Purdy, wide receiver and running back all play since Purdy's first career start. In the same span, Purdy's entire career as their starting quarterback, the team is 2-4 when any one of these three players, including Purdy, do not play.Last week against the when Samuel left the game with a shoulder injury and did Jim Thome Jersey not return, San Francisco short-circuited, allowing Green Bay to po se s control over the game for the vast majority of play. It wasn't until a Packers mi sed field goal that the 49ers were able to drive down the field and score a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Purdy is a solid player, but he struggled mightily all night long against until the final drive of the game. He's not one of the most prominent, determining factors in the 49ers winning or losing a game. The 49ers with Purdy, Samuel and McCaffrey in lineup since Purdy's first career start (including playoffs):49ersAll HealthyAll Other GamesW-L18-12-4PPG32.818.2San Francisco 49ers middle linebacker Fred Warner is the NFL's best inside linebacker. He was named a First-Team All-Pro in three of the last four seasons, including two in a row in 2022 and 2023.This season, his 90.3 Pro Football Focus defensive grade led all NFL linebackers, and his 90.7 PFF run defense grade ranked third among all linebackers around the league. His role in defending against both Detroit's ground and aerial attacks is pivotal.Lions running backs (1,015 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns) and rookie (945 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns) almost became the first teammate duo to each go for 1,000 or more rushing yards and 10 or more rushing touchdowns in the same season in NFL history.Detroit rookie Pro Bowl tight end has 11 receiving touchdowns this season, including the playoffs, which is the second most in NFL history by a rookie Cody Allen Jersey tight end, trailing only Hall of Famer Mike Ditka's 12. Warner will most likely be tasked with keep LaPorta blanketed over the middle of the field and in the run zone. How well he does at keeping LaPorta and Detroit's dynamic, two-headed rushing attack at bay will be critical in determining the outcome on Sunday.Pre suring an opposing quarterback consistently is a key to a victory no matter who a team is playing. For the Detroit Lions, pre suring Purdy is paramount. When Purdy wasn't pre sured dropping back to pa s in the regular season, he had an NFL-best 115.2 pa ser rating with 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in addition to an NFL-best 9.7 yards per pa s attempt. No other quarterback had a yards per pa s attempt over 8.5. When Purdy was pre sured when dropping back to pa s he had a pa ser rating of 25.2, the fourth-worst in the entire NFL this season, with no touchdowns and one interception. His yards per pa s attempt also plummeted to 5.5, 16th in the league. For context, a 115.2 pa ser rating is one point higher than Hall of Famer rating from the 2013 season in which he set the NFL's single-season pa sing touchdowns (55) and pa sing yards (5,477) records. A 25.2 pa ser rating is 14.4 points lower than the pa ser rating generated by throwing only incompletions, 39.6.Lions Pro Bowl edge rusher Trevor Bauer Jersey Aidan Hutchinson is currently on a roll. He has eight sacks in the last four games including the playoffs after having just 6.5 sacks in his first 15 games. Hutchinson has recorded 11 consecutive games with five or more quarterback pre sures including the postseason, which is the longest streak by any player since Pro Football Focus began tracking this statistic in 2017. His 118 quarterback pre sures this season are the most in the NFL, including postseason play. Hutchinson has the ability to have an outsized impact on the result of the game.Did you know that the Lions' first game with Dan Campbell as their head coach and as their quarterback came against the 49ers? The result was a 41-33 49ers victory in Week 1 of the 2021 season in which 49ers do-it-all receiver went off.He totaled 189 receiving yards and a touchdown on nine catches. His status for Sunday's game is , following the shoulder injury he suffered against the Packers on Sunday in the NFC divisional round. Shanahan did say that Samuelwhen asked about his status on Wednesday. His presence is critical in helping power the 49ers back to the for the first tine since the 2019 season. Samuel leads all NFL wide receivers in yards after catch/reception (8.8) this season, a metric he has led the league in during each of the last four seasons. He also leads the entire NFL in yards per carry (6.3) since entering the NFL in 2019, among those with at least 150 carries in that span.Samuel's all-around offensive production is singular as he is the only player in the era (since 1966) with at least 4,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards acro s his first five NFL seasons. How big is his impact on the 49ers? Well, the team is 53-23 when he plays since 2019, but they having a losing record (8-9) when he doesn't suit up.When zooming on his impact when he is on and off the football field during a game this season, it's incredibly clear how significant of an X factor Samuel is for the 49ers. San Francisco average one-and-a-half fewer yards per play, two fewer yards per carry and half a yard fewer in yards per pa s attempt without him on the field in 2023. The 49ers with Samuel on/off field this season (including playoffs):On FieldOff FieldYards/Play7.15.6Yards/Carry5.63.6Yards/Pa s Attempt8.98.4The formula for a Lions victory begins and ends with Goff playing efficient football, throwing touchdowns Matt Belisle Jersey and taking care of the football. In Detroit's two postseason wins, Goff has three touchdowns and no interceptions. Two of those two touchdowns came on Sunday against the in a 31-23 win in which Goff threw for 287 yards and the two scores on 30 of 43 pa sing.In the 24-23 wild-card round win over his predece sor and his former team, the , Goff set the Lions' postseason single-game completion percentage record, minimum 10 pa s attempts, at 81% (22 of 27 pa sing) with 277 pa sing yards and a touchdown. His ability to maintain composure and lead the Lions up and down the field for points will be the single biggest reason why the Lions win or lose on Sunday. The First-Team All-Pro running back is the engine that powers the 49ers offense. People think of the Shanahan tree offenses, and they think of motion usage and route trees that do a fantastic job of scheming pa s-catchers open.Shanahan is at his happiest when bludgeoning his opponent to death with creative run-blocking schemes and the NFL's most dynamic running back going wild. McCaffrey literally carried the 49ers to victory last week in the divisional round with over 128 scrimmage yards (98 rushing and 30 receiving) and two rushing touchdowns, a 39-yarder in which he threw multiple Packers defenders off of him like children and the game-winning 6-yard score with 1:07 left to play. His 23 scrimmage touchdowns, including the postseason, are tied for the most in 49ers history, and he is on the precipice of becoming the first rushing title winner (1,459 rushing yards in the regular season) to reach the Super Bowl since Shaun Alexander did so with the in the 2005 season. However, McCaffrey has what may be his toughest test of the season on Sunday. The Lions defense ranked top three in the league in rushing yards allowed (88.8 rushing yards per game allowed, second-fewest in NFL) and yards per carry allowed (3.7, third-fewest in NFL) this season.Detroit is also the first team since last season's 49ers to not allow a running back to have at least 70 rushing yards in a game for the entire regular season. Naturally, McCaffrey led the NFL with at least seven games of over 100 rushing yards. The Lions have also limited explosive runs as they still have yet to allow a run of over 30 yards to a running back this season, including the playoffs. McCaffrey's five runs of 30 or more yards this season including the playoffs are tied for the most in the entire NFL.How McCaffrey does on the ground affects every other element of the 49ers offense. If the Lions can limit him to under 100 yards or close to it as the Packers did last week, Andrew Miller Jersey Detroit will have a chance to win. If McCaffrey goes bananas and grinds the Detroit front seven into a paste, San Francisco will win easily. His production is the top X factor for the 49ers every week, and it will be once again against the Lions with a trip to the Super Bowl within reach.
Of all the storylines that have unfolded throughout the first half of the 2022 season, breakout Jason Heyward Jersey in Seattle has been one of the more fascinating. At 5-3, the head into Week 9 in sole po se sion of first place in the NFC West, and a large part of the reason why has been the play of Smith.Smith currently leads the NFL in completion percentage and is third in pa ser rating, all while making some difficult throws. He's top three in the league in pa Ben Zobrist Jersey ser rating on throws 15 yards or beyond, throws outside the numbers, and on pa ses when pre sured.Considering that Smith was in the midst of a quarterback battle with over the summer to now being one of the best statistical signal-callers in the league, it's a pretty astounding turn of events. But where does it go? And not just for the 2022 season, but beyond Ernie Banks Jersey that? After all, Smith did sign a one-year, $3.5 million contract this offseason, meaning he could hit unrestricted free agency this spring. Given what we've seen from him thus far, he could be in line for a ma sive pay bump from the Seahawks or another organization acro s the league. SEA QB #7 CMP%72.7YDs1924TD13INT3YD/Att7.73 But he isn't paying that much mind right now."I don't really live my life like that," Smith said Thursday when asked about his future beyond 2022. "I'm always focused on what I've got to do today and tomorrow. Those things will come. Time will tell. Time will tell with all Kerry Wood Jersey that. But for me, I've just got to stay focused on what I'm doing in here and that's working hard and leading this team and going out there and competing to get wins." Naturally, Smith will want to stay in the moment to try and help Seattle make a playoff push, but he is building up a significant market for himself that could pay off Ian Happ Jersey huge in just a few short months.
Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Pick Six Newsletter! With just four weeks left to play in the season, you'd think Willie McGee Jersey that the NFL playoff picture would be clearing up at this point, but instead, it's somehow gotten more confusing. The had a chance to become the first team to clinch a playoff berth Monday night, but they blew it, which means exactly zero teams have clinched a berth through 14 weeks. If that sounds crazy, that's because it is. This year marks just the that we haven't seen a single team clinch a playoff berth through 14 weeks. CAN SOMEONE JUST CLINCH A PLAYOFF SPOT ALREADY? I can't handle any more drama.Anyway, we'll be covering all the details from the ' 30-23 win in today's newsletter, plus we'll be taking a look at Prisco's latest power rankings and my Week 15 picks, so let's get to the rundown. As always, here's your weekly reminder to tell all your friends to sign up for the Pick Six newsletter. Today's show: Recapping the Rams' wild win over ArizonaThe Rams are right back in the race for the NFC West title after upsetting the Cardinals in Arizona on Monday night. The Rams offense we expected to see all season finally showed up in their 30-23 win.The only thing more exciting than the Rams' offensive fireworks was the podcast Ryan Wilson, Will Brinson and I recorded after the game. Here are three key things from the game that we touched on during the podcast:Rams offense gets its groove back. was nearly unstoppable in this game, and most importantly for the Rams, he didn't turn the ball over. On a night where he threw for 287 yards, Stafford got everyone involved as , and all had at least one catch of 40 or more yards AND a touchdown. On Kupp's end, no one has been able to cover him all season and that didn't change in this game with the receiver hauling in 13 pa ses for 123 yards and a touchdown.Murray meltdown. made plenty of huge plays in this game, but those were overshadowed by big mistakes, the two biggest of which came in the form of ugly interceptions. In the first quarter, Murray threw an interception on the goal line after driving Arizona 63 yards. His second miscue came when he threw an interception in his own territory in the third quarter that eventually set up a Rams touchdown. Murray also inexplicably took a sack on the final play of the game when he simply should have spiked the ball, which would have given the Cardinals a few seconds to come up with a final play that might have actually worked. It was a bad night for a player who hasn't had many bad nights this year. The NFC West race tightens. With their win Monday, not only did the Rams take one big step toward clinching a wild-card berth, but they've now become a serious contender to win the NFC West. With just four weeks left to play, the Rams are only one game behind Arizona, which means if the Cardinals slip up at all in their final four games, Los Angeles could be there to steal the division title away.Besides those three things, we also spent some serious time trying to figure out who's going to make the playoffs out of the NFC. To listen to today's episode -- and to subscribe to the best daily NFL podcast out there --. You . Enos Slaughter Jersey 2. Prisco's Power Rankings heading into Week 15The Cardinals' lo s on Monday night meant Pete Prisco had to re-shuffle the top of his power rankings and that's because Arizona was at the top last week. The top-five teams are actually the exact same as last week, but they're now in a different order. With that in mind, here's a look at Prisco's top-five teams heading into Week 15:CardinalsI won't spoil the rest of the Power Rankings here, but I will give you a few nuggets. Here's what has changed since last week: The biggest jump this week went to the three different teams as the , and all moved up three spots. All three are now on the cusp of cracking the top five with the Chargers at eighth, the Cowboys at seventh and the Titans at sixth. For the second straight week, the biggest drop in the AFC went to the . Every year, the Raiders seem to melt down around this time and this year is no different. Following their blowout lo s to the Chiefs, Prisco dropped them three spots from 17th to 20th.The biggest overall tumble in the rankings went to Washington. After watching WFT lose to the Cowboys, Prisco punished the team by dropping it four spots from 15th to 19th. The most inexplicable move in the rankings went to the Rams, who DROPPED three spots even though they beat the Cardinals. I'm not sure if Pete knows how power rankings work, but when a team beats the No. Jose Martinez Jersey 1 team, you usually don't drop them any spots, let alone three. In news that probably won't come as a surprise to anyone: the are dead last for the second straight week. I'm starting to think Prisco might be the guy leaking all those negative reports about Urban Meyer. If you want to know where . If you want to argue with Prisco over his rankings, especially his ranking of the Rams, you. I argue with him all the time about everything. 3. Breech's Week 15 picksIt's Tuesday, and that can only mean one thing: It's time for my weekly picks.Last week, I managed to go 11-3, but two of those lo ses shouldn't have even counted because they came in overtime -- I picked the and to win -- so I'm going to tell myself that I actually went 13-1 for Week 14 and since I went 13-1, I have high hopes for this week. With that in mind, here are three of my picks for Week 15. New England (+2) at Indianapolis:As we know, Bill Belichick tries to take away the thing you do best and the thing Indy does best is run the ball. The are 7-0 this year when they rush for 125 yards or more and 0-6 when they rush for le s than 125 yards. Belichick is likely going to take away the run and make beat him, and based on what I've seen from Wentz this season, I don't think that's going to happen.PICK:Patriots 20-17 over Colts.Dallas (-10.5) at :If there's one team has absolutely owned in his career, it's the New York Giants. Since 2017, he's 8-0 against the Giants and the Cowboys have won those games by an average of 13.5 points per game. During that span, he's thrown 19 touchdowns to just three interceptions against them. Also, this is arguably the best Cowboys defense he's played with over that timeframe and the defense will likely be going up against Giants backup QB . I don't like New York's chances.PICK:Cowboys 30-17 over Giants.Green Bay (-5) at Baltimore: The offense has been an absolute disaster for five straight weeks now and I can't imagine they're going to be much better this week. If plays, he's likely going to be hobbled by his ankle, and if he doesn't play, I don't think is going to have very much succe s against the Packers defense. I know is injured, but he's been playing with Bob Gibson Jersey a hurt toe for more than a month now and it doesn't seem to be slowing him down.PICK:Packers 31-24 over Ravens. To . 4. One thing we learned about each team in Week 14Now that all 14 games from Week 14 have been played, CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin decided to wade through the aftermath to figure out what we learned about each team. Here's a look at what we learned about five teams:Cardinals: They don't look like the NFC favorites anymore.Bengals: They seem to be losing steam.Chiefs: They seem to be back.:Big Ben still appears to have some fight in him.49ers: They feel like a lock for the playoffs. If you want to see the one thing we learned about every other team, . 5. NFL hit hard by COVIDThe NFL hasn't had to reschedule any games this year due to COVID, but the ongoing pandemic could still have an impact on the playoff race. If you need proof of that, just check out what happened Monday. The NFL announced that 37 players have been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, which are the most during any single week this season. Here's a look several key players who could mi s action in Week 15 due to a positive COVID test. Chargers LT . The Chargers might not have their starting left tackle for Thursday's showdown with the Chiefs. According , Slater is vaccinated, so if he records two negative tests taken at least 24 hours apart, he would have a chance to play this week. But with the Chargers playing Thursday, that seems highly unlikely. Rams CB . The Rams star corner actually mi sed last night's game after testing positive Monday morning, and he could also end up mi sing their Week 15 game against the .Washington DT . However, Allen , so there's at least a chance he could suit up. have no running backs. was placed on the COVID list, which is notable because Miami running backs and are already on the list, which means the Dolphins don't have a lot depth right now at the position. Safety was also added to the COVID list Monday.Chiefs WR . Although he hasn't made a huge impact this year, Gordon did catch a touchdown pa s in Week 14. Like Slater, it's unlikely Gordon will be able to play this week with his game being Thursday. RB . It's a good thing has returned from injury, because the Vikings might not have Mattison for Monday's big game against the after he was placed on the COVID list.Due to the rapid spread of COVID, the letting teams know that any player who wants to keep their vaccination status will have to get a COVID booster shot by Dec. 27. 6. According , Henry's rehab is going so well that he could potentially return in Week 18 if Tenne see is facing a do-or-die situation. If the Titans have already clinched a playoff spot, then Henry will almost certainly be ready to return in the playoffs. likely out Week 15. The Giants QB didn't play in Week 14 due to a neck injury, and it appears that injury is going to keep him out for at least one more week. Mayfield completed le s than 50 percent of his pa ses in last Sunday's 14-7 road win over the .Green, who endured several significant injuries during his playing career, understands the challenge Mayfield is currently deal with."It's difficult," said Green, who resumed his career after mi sing the entire 1999 season with a serious knee injury. "You spend a lot of extra time just trying to get yourself ready. I came back off of major knee surgery, and that first year was exhausting, because you're still trying to manage the whole thing and you are still getting prepared. "It's draining mentally and physically because you've having to do two different things. You can't just prepare for an opponent; you're having to manage an injury."Mayfield and the Browns' offense will likely lean even more on the league's top-ranked rushing attack that has been led by Chubb and Hunt. Chubb leads the Browns with an average of nearly 91 rushing yards a game. Like Chubb, Hunt has also run for three touchdowns and is also averaging nearly 88 all-purpose yards per game. Unlike previous running back duos, where there was typically a featured back and a third-down back, Green says the Browns' current duo is unique in that they are relatively interchangeable."When you look Marcell Ozuna Jersey at Nick Chubb and you look at what Kareem Hunt can do, they both can do everything," Green said. "Now, is Hunt a little bit better of a receiver than Chubb is? Yes. Is he a little bit better in pa s protection? Yes. Is Chubb maybe a little bit better on certain runs than Hunt is? Yes. They both have their plu ses and minuses, but the thing that's really unique about them is that it doesn't have to just be first-down, second-down, third-down back. "They both can do everything, and you just of go with the hot hand. It's a great problem to have if Nolan Arenado Jersey you're the Browns." The Chargers have their own unique talent at running back in Ekeler, who scored two touchdowns in Monday night's win over the . Green, who played with two of the most versatile running backs in league history in Marshall Faulk and Priest Holmes, was asked which of his former teammates reminds him more of Ekeler."I would probably compare him more to Priest," Green said. "It is amazing how strong he is. His strength is incredible. Even though he is small in stature, he is a between the tackle kind of runner. He is an excellent receiver out in space. I would compare him more to Priest, because Priest was similar in stature, did not have a problem going in between the tackles, was good out in space in the screen game and out wide. "Marshall was just a unique talent. Marshall I kind of put into his own category because he was good at both running and receiving ." Both offenses will have their work cut out for them against two of the league's top defenses. The Chargers' defense has allowed just one opponent to surpa s 20 points thus far and are currently seventh in the NFL in scoring and fifth in pa sing. The unit is just 29th in the league in rushing, 23rd on third-down efficiency and 25th in red-zone efficiency. The Browns' defense is fourth in the NFL in scoring and third in both pa sing and rushing yards allowed. In last week's win over the Vikings, the Browns' defense followed up its dominant performance against rookie and the in Week 3 with an even more impre sive outing. Both defenses boast two of the NFL's premier Roger Maris Jersey pa s rushers in Cleveland's Garrett and Los Angeles' . As it relates to Garrett, Green says the way he is used within the Browns' defense creates unique challenges for opposing quarterbacks"With Myles Garrett, what Joe Woods has done with him is he's played all the spots," Green said. "He's moved everywhere along that line. And has moved side-to-side and sometimes they will line them next to each other. That presents a set of problems, and then you have Malik Jackson in the middle. You've got all these pieces moving around." With a defense as good as Cleveland's whether or not Herbert will be able to take advantage of his few opportunities to make a big play may ultimately determine which team will be 4-1 by the end of the day."If I'm Justin Herbert, there are going to be opportunities to take shots down the field," Green said. "You could see the Vikings had a couple of those, but not many; they kept pretty much everything in front of them. But everything I have seen from Herbert, and it's weird to say about a young guy, he does not fall into that trap of trying to force it. He seems like he has done a really good job especially this season in managing things. With a guy with that strong of an arm, Yairo Munoz Jersey it's pretty good how he's able to control that." With Mayfield le s than 100 percent, the Browns will surely look to give Chubb and Hunt a heavy workload as they look to exploit the Chargers' below-average run defense. If the Browns are able to avoid falling behind early while dictating the tempo of the game, Cleveland is certainly capable of leaving Los Angeles with its fourth straight win. That being said, Mayfield's injury puts significant pre sure on the rest of the team. The defense will have to be even better on Sunday than it's been the last two weeks. I don't see that happening on Sunday against a Chargers offense that is flooded with talent. Pick: Chargers 19, Browns 16
