The aesthetic of the new zone reflects the primordial building blocks of that construction. The new raid, Sepulcher of the First Ones, will feature recurring central character Anduin. A Cypher system will allow players to slowly progress as they literally learn the language of the First Ones, unlocking not just communication but also new content to play.“This is the First Ones, the architects of the universe,” Wons explains. “This is their playground. This is where they’re creating prototypes of things that we eventually see in the Shadowlands. We really wanted to double down on the fact that this place is so foreign and so alien that you really can’t even communicate with the beings here.”

At first players will only see glyphs in their chat from the zone’s automaton NPCs. Eventually, as players learn more, they’ll begin seeing translations appear.“You’re able to eventually read more of what they have to say, and you can learn more about everything in Zereth Mortis,” Wons says.

“That unlocks some additional content, because it’s not just communication,” Hazzikostas adds. “It’s also the ability to use and understand consoles and enable events and unlock buffs and all the rest. You’re gaining a deeper understanding of this group, and as you get that ability to understand and communicate, that unlocks access to narrative, but also content.”
