The software charts featured several new entries that were led by Cataclysm the latest update to Blizzard's hugely-multiplayer online gaming game WoW Cataclysm Classic.WoW cataclysm Gold Cataclysm was released in third position just behind Black Ops and Blizzard's Wii-exclusive rhythm game, Just Dance 2. Two other new games included in the top 10 officially released in November, however they were released way too late to make it into the top charts. Disney Epic Mickey claimed sixth spot in December, and Michael Jackson The Experience put another Blizzard dance game into the top 10 on eighth place.
The King of Pop game launched via PSP, DS and Wii Wii, DS, and PSP, Blizzard has said almost 90 percent of games sold were that Wii version, which makes for an impressive performance from the many exclusives from third parties for Nintendo's console. Nintendo has managed to get just one game from its catalog into the top 10, which is fifth-placed Retro Studios-developed Donkey Kong Country Returns.
Other titles could have made it onto the list of the top 10 best-selling SKUs, however they weren't included in the NPD Group's multiplatform total sales chart. These games include Microsoft's Kinect Sports and Dance Central and the THQ UDraw Studio, which was available for Wii and UDraw Studio for the Nintendo 3DS, which was bundled into an UDraw Tablet accessory.
Similar to the market for software Hardware sales were down in December in the same way, with US retailers selling only $1.84 billion in portables and consoles in a decline of 16 percent over the last year. There were some positive stories within the mix however as Xbox 360 Xbox 360 posted its best month of sales in its history with sales of 1.9 millions units. The Xbox 360 was the sole system to report a year-over year growth in sales. But Nintendo's DS maintained its top spot on the charts of hardware for the month, bringing its US total sales up to 47 million and eclipsing the PlayStation.
The only segment to see improvement in December was the accessory sales. Peripherals had their highest monthly sales in a single month and raked in $853.2 million,WoW cataclysm Gold an increase of 10 percent over levels in 2009. Kinect was the most popular peripheral. Kinect was the top-selling accessory for the second time in a row as online currency and subscription cards saw sales increase by the highest percentage over December's figures.
