Carli Lloyd calls recent limited role on USWNT worst time of from seestyle's blog

Despite being part of a team that won back-to-back World Cup Joe Morgan Jersey titles, veteran player Carli Lloyd called the three years leading up to the United States women's national team's 2019 victory "the worst time of my life."

Lloyd, 37,opened up about her diminished role on the team and how it ended up marring not just her life on the field but off it, too.

"I'm not going to lie and sugarcoat it," Lloyd said on ESPN's "" podcast. "It was absolutely the worst time of my life. It affected my relationship with my husband, with friends. It really was rock bottom of my entire career. But somehow, you see light at the end of the tunnel, and I can honestly say I'm having more fun now playing than I ever have in my career. I think I just learned a lot throughout it."

The biggest factor that played in to Lloyd's different role was the ankle injury she suffered while with the Houston Dash in 2017. She needed to take time off Pete Rose Jersey to let her ankle heal, but it coincided with coach Jill Ellis' Johnny Bench Jersey decision to move the USWNT's formation to a4-3-3 setup.

Previously a midfielder, Lloyd transitioned to forward to fit the new scheme. Even though she was fully healed by the time the 2019 World Cup began, she remained a reserve for most of the tournament.

"There's no denying it," Lloyd said. "I deserved to be on that field that whole World Cup, but I wasn't. And I think I've grown as a person, as a player. It sucked. It absolutely sucked."

Lloyd's lone start came against Chile during the World Cup group phase, which saw the U.S. win, 3-0. Still, she scored in the U.S.'s first two games in France and set the record for scoring in six World Cup games in a row.

She also set the record by becoming the oldest playerto score two goals in a World Cup game which she did against Chile just one month before her 37th birthday.

Dave Concepcion Jersey Despite the le ser role, Lloyd served as a team co-captain and said she kept her frustrations to herself so she wouldn't become a distraction to the team.

As for her future in soccer, Lloyd said she still wants to play for a few more years despite garnering attention as a po sible NFL kicker and that she wants to talk to whomever the U.S. hires as the national Yasiel Puig Jersey team's new coach now that Ellis has stepped down.

With the U.S. getting ready for the Olympic Games next summer in Tokyo, Lloyd said she wants to see where she fits in.

"I hope a coach comes in that values me, respects me, wants me as a part of the Olympic plans," Lloyd said. "There's no question my abilities are there. I'm able to do it. Physically I'm able to do it. I would Nick Castellanos Jersey love to be a part of it, but I want to have an open, honest conversation, because if I'm not, I can't go through what I went through for three years."
