Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and High Blood pressure (HBP)   | Ep 12 | Dr. A. Kumar

High blood pressure (HBP or hypertension) is when, the force of the blood pushing against the walls of the blood vessels, is consistently too high.

High blood pressure (HBP) or Hypertension can contribute to Erectile Dysfunction) (ED).

Over time, high blood pressure damages the lining of blood vessels and causes arteries to harden and narrow (atherosclerosis), limiting blood flow to Penis. This means less blood is able to flow to the penis.

For some men, the decreased blood flow makes it difficult to achieve and maintain erections — often referred to as erectile dysfunction. The problem is fairly common. High blood pressure can also interfere with ejaculation and reduce sexual desire. Sometimes the medications used to treat high blood pressure have similar effects.

High blood pressure often has no signs or symptoms. But the impact on your sex life may be obvious.

High blood pressure and Erectile dysfunction treatment in India:

High blood pressure damages your arteries. Over time, it can cause your arteries to become less flexible and narrow. This reduces your blood flow. Not only does it put you at risk of heart attack and stroke, it also limits the blood that circulates to your penis. Proper blood flow through the arteries is needed to get and maintain an erection.

If left untreated, high blood pressure can cause Erectile Dysfunction. However some drug treatments for high blood pressure can also impair sexual function and cause Erectile Dysfunction.

Blood pressure medication and Erectile Dysfunction:

High blood pressure medications that can cause sexual dysfunction as a side effect include:

1. Water pills (diuretics).

2. Beta blockers.

By making healthy lifestyle choices, you can lower your blood pressure and potentially improve your sex life. Healthy lifestyle choices include:

Not smoking or using tobacco

Eating healthy foods

Limiting alcohol consumption

Reducing the amount of salt in your diet

Losing extra pounds

Exercising regularly

Of course, a leaner body can boost your confidence and help you feel more attractive, which could also improve your sex life.

The most suitable treatment will depend on the health of the patient and their own ability to tolerate the treatment. Specialists can work with individual cases and determine the best treatment for every individual to overcome the problem of erectile dysfunction and erectile dysfunction associated with hypertension or high blood pressure or any other underlying cause.
