Path of Exile 2 is a massive expansion to the base game. It features a graphical overhaul, new ascendancy classes, the gem system rework, and a brand new story campaign that takes place 20 years after Kitava’s death. This will serve as the new bridge into PoE’s endgame mapping system. But it doesn’t replace the original campaign, allowing you to play the campaign you choose/prefer.
Path of Exile 2 Release Date
As of now, there is no release date for Path of Exile 2 yet but GGG is unlikely to start a Beta until at least very late 2022. In the meantime, the developers are continuing to release Path of Exile expansions on their regular three-month cycle. This content will be available in both the Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2 campaigns.
Path Of Exile 2 Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Grinding Gear Games boasts the “One Game Two Campaigns” feature since as stated earlier, Path of Exile 2 will only be an expansion to the main game.
The expansion will be a new seven-act storyline that is available alongside the original Path of Exile campaign.
Grinding Gear Games also stated on the page of Path of Exile 2 “Both the old and new storylines lead to the same shared Atlas endgame. Path of Exile 2 retains all expansion content that has been created over the last six years and introduces a new skill system, ascendancy classes, engine improvements, and more.”

Path of Exile 2's Platforms
Again, not much has been officially confirmed in the way of what Path of Exile 2 will release on. However, Path of Exile is out on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Mac. So, if Path of Exile 2 is coming to the original game's client, we can probably expect that the game will come to all the platforms the original game is out on.
However, we'll also likely be able to expect next-gen features on PS5 and Xbox Series X, though the game is also likely to come to PS4 and Xbox One, though, again, nothing has been officially confirmed. We don't know if there'll be a simultaneous release across all platforms, either. The same goes for the beta, too.
Path of Exile 2 story
The new, seven-act campaign is set 20 years after the death of Kitava, and will be available alongside the PoE campaign – both storylines conclude into the same endgame content. PoE 2 will include all the expansion content that’s come to the game over the years, while making engine improvements and adding a host of new features.
The gameplay demo of the game’s second act also shows that the progression isn’t completely linear. You will be able to explore multiple paths, based on choices you make in dialogue. It’s not clear at this point if you can go to the other areas later on or not.
