World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the most recent expansion for the MMORPG. The eighth expansion was set to release in October 2020 but was delayed due to development complications from the ongoing pandemic until November 2020, which aligned perfectly with the 16th anniversary of the base game. WoW: Shadowlands explores the realm of the dead, where the souls of those who live in Azeroth go when they die. Unfortunately, all is not well in the afterlife, and players are required to try and pull the realm back together. Dataminers have been hard at work ahead of Shadowlands' upcoming 9.1 patch Chains of Domination, looking for as much information as possible among World of Warcraft's code before the patch is issued. According to a report from these dataminers on Wowhead, eyeglasses are going to be added in as an option for WoW character models in the new update. This is the first time in over 16 years that eyeglasses have been mentioned in the world of Azeroth.
Some NPCs in World of Warcraft already had glasses, with various intelligent beings and scientists sporting spectacles over the years. Now a number of different types of glasses will be made available to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players, allowing for more customization options. There are even allegedly different types of frames, including full and half-moon glasses and a number of different of colors and lenses. The World of Warcraft dataminers say that they have found over six new sets of glasses in the patch code fragments currently in Shadowlands, but are still working on locating all of the models for these glasses.
While the new World of Warcraft: Shadowlands patch will be much bigger than just adding in some cosmetic glasses to the game, players are still likely pretty excited about the new options. Shadowlands and the previous WoW expansion Battle for Azeroth both improved the game's character models exponentially. These new cosmetics are just more of Blizzard finally bringing the aesthetic of World of Warcraft to a more modern look.
