You need to discover the perfect gems to suit your style, to earn good star ratings to improve the gems you are using, and Diablo IV Gold eventually put them into the gem's resonance slots. It's endless.
There are a lot of Diablo Immortal's currencies, upgrade paths, and reward mechanisms, legendary gems are where the business model bites the hardest. Blizzard and NetEase have not been so outrageous as to offer directly using a loot container or gacha mechanism, but what they have come up with are, in its own way that is even more alarming. Legendary gems are only available from the bosses of the randomly generated Elder Rift dungeons, and you can only ensure a legendary gem drop by applying an legendary crest modifier the dungeon before you start the dungeon. In other words, the rates of drop for legendary gems are very low.
In the absence of spending money on the game, you can only collect one legendary crest per month, and even buying one of the battle passes will reward you with two or three additional legendary crests each month. Beyond that, you need to purchase them from the source. Legendary crests cost around $2 to $3 for each. The massive amount of gems you'll require to maximize your character's equipment especially when you consider the low drop rates for five-star gems, is one of the reason why the cost to max out your character's potential in Diablo Immortal has been estimated at approximately $50,000-$100,000 -perhaps more in the case of getting into the system of gem resonance. (Rock Paper Shotgun offers a very thorough cost breakdown that is at the more prudent end of the spectrum.)
Diablo Immortal has been given an extremely rough ride due to the business model it is based on (perhaps disproportionately) when you consider that other popular free-to play games like Genshin Impact and Lost Ark have a lot of gacha mechanisms to draw in high-priced "whale" gamers. Diablo's popularity and reputation among its core PC gaming player base, built over the span of nearly a quarter century, is certainly an element. But it's also true that Diablo's gaming system is notoriously problematic, and the very nature of Diablo games may have something to do with that.
When you purchase legendary crests, it is not buying the dice as the case with the FIFA Ultimate Team card pack, say. The purchase is an opportunity to roll the dice to tap into the game engine to alter the drop rates (slightly) in your favor. The addictive gambling mechanics aren't isolated from the addictive gameplay mechanics, but rather tied directly into combat and loot drops within the game. Diablo is perfectly positioned to do this; as my colleague Maddy Myers pointed out, these games that focus on loot have always had the feel of a slot machine, which Diablo 4 Gold Immortal's business model makes real.
